What so proudly we hailed, at the twilights last gleaming."
September 13, 1814. Francis Scott Key, inspired and in awe of what he had just witnessed, penned our national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner."
It had been a long night in Fort McHenry. Americans were under siege by British troops. At dawn's break, Mr. Key, who was observing from a ship some 8 miles out of harbor, was overjoyed to see the British retreating and that Old Glory, though somewhat burned and tattered from the struggle, still flew high on it's post.
"Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
Oer the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And thy rocket's red glare, thy bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night, that our flag was still there."
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. Each time a rocket or bomb exploded, the sky lit up as if to taunt, "It's all over for America. It's all over for the Patriot's Dream". There were those who feared the worst. But each blast of light simply documented the fact that our flag was still there, standing. The British went down. Our flag stayed up.
"Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave?"
Once again our flag has come under fire .... and under foot! A heated battle has arisen which threatens us all. Many watch and wonder. Our realest danger now comes not from outside our borders, but from within ourselves.
The enemy is here. He has already devised a plan against us. He is just waiting for the right time to strike. It is to his advantage that we wear ourselves out fighting each other. Will we loose it all to gain some?
Our greatest threat is to believe the lie that we no longer need God or His principles to lead our nation. There are many speaking curses over our nation right now. We must counter with, "God Bless America."
But America, we must not only seek God's hand. We must also seek His Face. Don't say that is sacrilegious. Don't say no one can see His Face and live. That's why Jesus came, saying, "World, meet My Father, God."
America, bless God. Isn't it time?
